As we creep slowly towards Winter I have had time to reflect on what a busy Summer it has been: finishing my Masters, attending countless game industry events, being fortunate enough to speak at one on my work. I have had the great pleasure of receiving a lot of positive feedback on various pieces of work in the realm of procedural music (let's hope my examiners are just as positive). Now I have decided to create a series of tutorials which I hope are helpful to anyone out there just starting out on this journey. My first video is one that I hope clearly explains one of my favourite methods of string synthesis, the Karplus-Strong method, while being an easy route of access to Unreal Engine's MetaSounds. certainly, when I first started using this programme I found plenty of confusion in small details, little shortcuts and boilerplate details which I hope this video explains clearly. Going forward I plan to use the synth built in this video as the backbone for a range of instruments and sounds we will build together, and then use in collaboration with blueprints to create interactive music. If there is anything you would like to see in this series, or anything I mention you would enjoy a deep dive into, please feel free to reach out to me through the classic Youtube comments or even through this site.
